Low energy homes on show

E-mail Print PDF

The biggest "Eco Houses Under Construction" event yet!
Have you ever wondered what an ultra-low energy home would be like?  For a glimpse into the future, why not come along to this free exhibition at St Paul’s Church on Boundary Road West Bridgford on Saturday 21st January 2012.

Whether your priorities include saving money, reducing your carbon footprint, comfort, future-proofing, or using sustainable materials and high quality products – this exhibition has something for you.
The exhibition includes an internally insulated stone coach house, a typical solid wall brick house (super-insulated externally),  a zero-carbon barn conversion as well as local new builds at Green Street in the Meadows and one in West Bridgford.  For articles about these houses and more, have a look at the website http://www.wbecohouses.co.uk/.

So why not make a day of it? From 10am until 1pm there will be displays and talks featuring each house.

Eco Houses Under Construction - Event 5

E-mail Print PDF

The 5th event in Transition West Bridgford’s Eco Houses Under Construction series is a rare opportunity to visit what we believe to be the UK's first Zero Carbon Barn Conversion, just down the road in East Leake. The visit will take place on Saturday 12th November, 2-5pm. Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to book your free place on this event, and to receive further details.

The developer (and owner) of this home is David Hill, who previously developed the UK's first Code 6 new build Zero Carbon homes in Upton, Northampton. He is now director of Carbon Legacy Ltd. A summary of the measures and technologies installed can be seen at http://wbecohouses.blogspot.com/. Although the building itself has been complete for some time now, the final addition of further renewable energy generation is soon to be carried out. This house has the advantage of 3 years' energy data post-completion, showing that energy use will be fully matched by energy generation once the outstanding installation work is complete.

Eco Houses Under Construction – Event 3
After the first 2 events in July attracting over 80 visitors between them, the date for the 3rd event has now been set.
This event will be held on Saturday 10th September at 12.30pm on site at the timber frame new build. Since the first event held at this site, a roof, triple glazed windows and lime plaster have been added. One very important development that you can’t see is the blown insulation within the timber frame walls (a recycled cellulose fibre which results in high airtightness and thermal mass but low u values and cost).
